Review: Wildflowers Come Back by Sarah Spann

Wow…I’m not even sure where to start. I’ve followed this author’s short stories weekly on her blog, and ever since I read the first one, I’ve been captivated by her writing. Her flow is wonderful, and her style – amazing.  I’ve been slowly counting the weeks until the release of her book, and I was thrilled to pick it up. I finally sat down to read it, and when I got through the first few pages today, I didn’t stop until I was done. This story sucked me in and I finished it in one sitting.

At first I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought there would be a heavy emphasis on the romantic elements, and being a guy, I usually prefer mystery and suspense. I was wrong; I got exactly what I hoped for, with a taste of the romance as well.

This story took me right into the High Desert Crest Inn and brought with it, the smell of old wood, musky air, and delicious aromas floating from the kitchen, all wrapped up in a buffet of mystery. No sooner did I wonder where this story would take me, did it begin to unfold.

Spann takes mystery to a new level as she unfolds the secrets of the inn. There was suspense around nearly every corner, and she kept me guessing throughout the pages. The characters all floated around me as I was sucked deeper into their world, and the ending left me turning the pages for more.

Often in this genre you get left hanging on the edge, unable to take a breath before the story is over. Spann strives to give you what you want, while leaving you begging for more. She tied all the details together, leaving me feeling the story was complete, but still, with a few words, managed to leave me begging for more. I can’t wait to see thrill ride Lyss finds herself in next.  Spann is an author I expect big things from.
