New & Improved

Can something actually be new and improved? I mean, if it’s improved, there was a previous model, making it just upgraded versus an entirely new product right? Anyways, that’s off topic, back to the topic at hand. I have a new site, and I just quickly wanted to let everyone know why.

Previously I hosted my website/blog at WordPress, and now, as you can see, it’s at Blogspot. There were a lot of reasons for this, but I’ll just share the two most important, so if you’re thinking of starting a blog, or changing sites, this might be able to help sway you one way or the other.

WordPress is a very professional looking site, but I don’t find it very user friendly. I’m fairly proficient when it comes to computers, but even I didn’t like the way the dashboard operated. Some of it was easy and straight forward, but I found most of it to be daugnting.

Blogspot is very professional looking as well, but I find it to be much more user friendly. The dashboard is labelled and all the settings are far easier to adjust.

My second reason for the switch, is customization. Blogspot is INCREDIBLE when it comes to customization. You can change everything: the layouts, the side bar and blog sizes, colors, templates. The templates with WordPress were very limited (and this is strictly my opinion) with very few choices for pictures, headers, styles, etc. Of course there are more options available to advanced users who upgrade, but I’m talking the basic membership.

The bonus reason – and this ties in with customization – is the look. I find the options for Blogspot to be greater. You can customize the look of your blog. Upload your own headers and backgrounds, and as with WordPress you can customize the widgest on the side bar, but I find Blogspots widgets to be better looking, more functional, and there is a wider variety of them.

So there you have it. In my humble opinion, Blogspot had everything I had with WordPress that I liked, and expanded it to all the things I wanted but couldnt’ have.

You tell me: What site do you blog on, and if you’ve tried more than one, why do you prefer one over the other?
